Our time-limited program for newly homeless families is called Home Again. Participants have a maximum number of months to remain in the program as long as continuous progress is being made toward their goals. During that time they receive rent and utilities subsidies, as well as the intensive case management services they need to find stable employment and develop the skills necessary to remain self-sufficient upon leaving the program.
The goal is to stabilize homeless families in decent, safe, and affordable permanent housing, while providing support services necessary to help resolve the underlying circumstances that may have contributed to their housing problems. Home Again removes the financial barriers to housing, allowing breadwinners to focus on getting back on their feet. Families are safely housed and can choose their neighborhood, allowing kids to remain in school and providing continuity.
Participants contribute 30% of their household adjusted gross income (AGI) to cover a portion of their monthly rent, but have a lease that is in their name. That helps emphasize the need to learn “Responsible Tenant Behavior” while working with their empowerment coach to identify barriers to remaining housed, and working to overcome them. Our Empowerment, Employment and Financial Education programs are consistently effective in helping people learn how to address their current and future problems and take steps to resolve them.
